Pyunkang Yul Review: Essence Toner and Nutrition Cream DELUXE

Pyunkang Yul, as the name suggests, comes from South Korea! I bought this because of a friend's recommendation. She said Pyunkang Yul products are good to give glass skin look, which we usually see in the K-dramas.

Well, when it comes to hydrating or moisturizing, I’ve never doubted Korean products so far. That’s also the selling point and the reason why their products are loved by Indonesian. They even managed to beat western brand domination.

I always love trying and reviewing so I just bought the mini size. I think the very basic line of Pyunkang Yul is the essence toner and nutrition cream. The toner worth Rp45.000,- for 30ml ,the cream is Rp66.000,- for 20ml. The full size is Rp105.000,- and Rp275.000,-respectively.

What do these products do?

The toner is supposed to give you this:

An essence-like viscous textured toner that provides dewy and smooth finish. Eastern Medicine recipe which derived from nature, thoughtfully formulated to help the sensitized skin rest and heal itself.

The keys are dewy, smooth, skin rest, and heal. And the cream is:

Nutrient-rich, soft formula provides long-lasting, deep hydration and radiance to the skin.

So, nutrition cream’ keys are rich, soft, long-lasting, deep hydration and radiant.

What are the ingredients?

Toner:

Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Arginine

Nutrition cream:

Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Polysorbate 60, 1,2-Hexanediol, Beeswax, Glyceryl Stearate, Cyclohexasiloxane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, PEG-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Caprylate

Both products are formulated with Astragalus Membranaceus root extract, which is a medicinal herb to protect immune system. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

What I felt?

Looking at its blue package, surprisingly, the toner is clear liquid. I thought it would be blue. The texture also tricked me. It’s rather thicker than water, but still feels very light to the skin. Only need a few drops to cover all my face. 

I agree with the key benefits they offer, except smooth and heal. 

I don’t think it smoothened my skin. You will always need exfoliation for that. At that time I hadn't done exfoliation for months. My skin were dry, dull, and rough. No matter how much I used these products, my skin stayed the same until I did exfoliation. ‘Smoothness’ didn’t come from this product.

Although it contains medical herbs, it didn’t heal my skin from anything. I did have acne problem on my nose only because it’s the only area producing much oil, but it didn’t give much help. The acne was growing red and took much time to go. 

I don’t get the healing benefit that they offer. Perhaps, other users with serious acne problem may care to share their experience.

Their essence toner, however, prepare my skin to absorb the next cream or whatsoever. It is easier and more satisfying when I apply cream after toning. I love using the toner when I get home. It calms and moisturizes my skin. As the texture is very light, I can use it whenever I want, day or night.

Pyunkang Yul nutrition cream is much heavier in texture. Their description of the cream on their web is accurate though. It’s rich, but soft and gives deep hydration. So, I use it at night only when I’m about to sleep.

During the day when your skin is exposed to the sun, the nutrition cream feels greasy. I don’t think oily skin will like this one. Even my dry skin feel a bit uncomfortable wearing this to work, so night or indoor use is recommended. 

If you like cream with a lighter texture, you might want to try their basic moisture cream. Yups, I just checked their website and turned out they have two types of cream with similar packages, the nutrition cream and moisture cream. I should’ve bought the later one.

Final Statement

Is Pyunkang Yul good? Yes. It’s good at hydrating and protecting skin barrier.

If you are searching for a ‘healthy’ skin look, I recommend Pyunkang Yul. Please don’t expect much like smooth and youth skin or combating acne problems. They are meant to hydrate skin only. Very simple, yet effective. No coloring or fragrance and it’s based on a medicinal herb.
